Christen Jensen was born the 28 October 1848, in Farre, Denmark, the son of Peder and Kjersten Andersen Jensen.  After joining the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his family decided to sell all of their belongings and immigrate to Utah with others of their faith.  In spite of many hardships,   sacrifice and ongoing trials, Christen was determined to remain faithful and true to the doctrines he had been taught.  Willingly, he defended settlers against the Navajo Indians in southern Utah, helped other emigrating “Saints” across the plains, fought in the Black Hawk War, helped build the St. George and Manti temples, returned to Scandinavia to fill a successful mission, entered into polygamy,  and served, not only as a home teacher, but in many leadership positions in the Church, including Senior President of the 92nd Quorum of Elders of the San Luis Stake of Colorado, Bishop of the Eastdale Ward in Colorado, Stake Patriarch, Chairman of the Stake Missionaries, and Stake Representative of the Genealogical Society of Utah, and labored in the Salt Lake City Temple.  In civic capacities, he served on the Town Board of Manassa, Colorado, as well as Police Magistrate, and Justice of the Peace.  Of his accomplishments, he said, “I have never had time to sew wild oats, consequently I have not had any to reap.”  His aim, with the Lord’s help, was to gain exaltation in our Father’s Kingdom.

The Denver Post Editor wrote of his passing:

“He was the oldest bank president in Colorado, being eighty-four years old, a friend to people in all walks of life—from the humble laborer to the greatest statesman.  A successful man, both religiously and financially–an excellent account.  He was indeed a self educated man and never forgot to teach his children that an honest upright life was worth every effort to gain happiness.”
